3 Steps to a healthier nutrition

Go back

According to the nutritionist Deimantė Rapalytė, enjoying food is mandatory. It will be difficult to change your eating habits if you put yourself in a frame, start restraining yourself, calculating each bite, and then overeat. The most important thing is to listen to your body, give it high-quality and nutritious food.

A balanced diet makes it easier to achieve physical and emotional changes, and usually it’s impossible to achieve the desired effect without it. Food is essential for your well-being and mood.

The nutritionist shares the tips on how to take the first steps towards a healthier diet.

1. Breakfast + Sleep + Rule 80/20

First, if you are not used to have breakfast, start doing it today! A nutritious and rich breakfast will prevent you from late overeating and will also give you more energy.

Second, be sure to take time to quality sleep, as research has shown that people who sleep less than 7-8 hours eat more unhealthy foods.

Third, adhere to Rule 80/20. Eighty percent of food shall be nutritious and healthy, and the rest can be your favourite food or dessert. Psychologists say that when you push yourself into a very rigid frame, a natural resistance instinct arises, so the diet does not work.

2. Sugar free – the mission is possible

It’s easier to avoid sugar when you are cook more at home, because only then you know what you put in the food. Even not sweet foods, such as bread or various sauces, contain sugar. It’s better to eat as pure food as possible, for example, pick a handful of nuts or fruits instead of a cereal bar, where glucose or corn syrups are often added instead of sugar.

3. Mineral substances are essential

The body is in great need of minerals, especially magnesium, calcium, sodium and potassium, because they are essential for the vital functions of the body: enzymes, vitamins, hormones, metabolism, and nervous system activity. By getting enough minerals, resistance to infections is increasing.

They also do an irreplaceable job – they maintain the alkali and acid balance. Certain foods, such as meat or milk, acidify the body, and these minerals act on the opposite – alkalise it.
